Results of Environmental Impact Reduction through the Recycling Business

Takeyuki Oga, Executive Director of Yamaichi Metal Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as Oga), spoke about the company’s aluminum recycling business, highlighting that Yamaichi Metal annually collects and processes approximately 3 billion aluminum cans (accounting for 15% of the national share) and 8,400 tons of aluminum foil (representing 90% of the national share), turning them into marketable products.
He also introduced specific examples demonstrating how these initiatives have contributed to reducing environmental impact.
Three CO₂ Reduction Projects Toward Decarbonization

He also explained the company’s efforts toward CO₂ reduction. At Yamaichi Metal, three key projects are being advanced:
①SME-version SBT (Science Based Targets)
②Decarbonization Roadmap
③Voluntary Carbon Credits
The company is advancing the following three projects. In the SME-version SBT, it sets greenhouse gas reduction targets and formulates a decarbonization roadmap with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. Furthermore, by utilizing privately operated voluntary credits, it promotes highly effective environmental conservation activities.

Oga emphasized the importance of companies actively addressing environmental issues and also spoke about the need for collaboration across local communities and entire industries. Through his lecture, participants were given an opportunity to reflect more deeply on corporate social responsibility and approaches to environmental challenges.
Going forward, Yamaichi Metal will continue to focus on its aluminum recycling business as a core activity, contributing to the reduction of environmental impact and working toward the realization of a sustainable society.
