Donation of Emergency Drinking Water Supplies to Numazu City

Yamaichi Metal Co., Ltd. will donate 20 cases (a total of 480 bottles, 500ml each) of the emergency drinking water “Mizu no Kakehashi,” which uses long-term preservable aluminum bottle cans, to Numazu City. The donation ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 28, at Numazu City Hall.

Donation Ceremony Overview

  • Date and Time:Thursday, November 28, 14:00 – 15:00
  • Location:Numazu City Hall

Numazu City: A Municipality with Strong Crisis Management Awareness

Numazu City, having taken recent natural disasters as a lesson, is a municipality with a strong awareness of crisis management. Given that many Yamaichi Metal employees are originally from Numazu, the city was chosen as the recipient of the donation.

Aluminum bottle cans with a shelf life of 12 years

The aluminum cans used for emergency drinking water supplies are well-suited for long-term storage due to their light-blocking and airtight properties, allowing for a shelf life of 12 years—significantly longer than that of plastic bottles. After consumption, the aluminum cans can be recycled and reborn as new cans.

The water is sourced in Yaizu City. This emergency water supply is eligible for participation in the “Mizu no Kakehashi Network,” a disaster-time mutual support system operated by UACJ, one of Japan’s leading aluminum producers. By using this system, users can expect to reduce the frequency of replacement, as well as the costs and labor associated with replenishment and disposal.

Achievement of Target KPIs Set as Donation Conditions

This donation is being made as a contribution to the local community following the achievement of the target KPIs set under the “Donation-Type Positive Impact Finance” loan Yamaichi Metal received from Shizuoka Bank.

Positive Impact Finance (PIF) is a financing framework in which a company’s activities are evaluated by third-party organizations—such as the Shizuoka Research Institute for Economics and the Japan Credit Rating Agency—for their impact on the environment, society, and economy. Companies that meet the specified conditions can receive loans from Shizuoka Bank.

In the donation-type PIF model, companies set targets (KPIs) to enhance their positive impact. Upon achieving these targets, the company makes a donation to the local community as a gesture of appreciation. Yamaichi Metal is the first company in Shizuoka Prefecture to implement this type of PIF.

Yamaichi Metal will continue to pursue closed-loop recycling that turns used aluminum cans back into new cans, aiming to further reduce CO₂ emissions and industrial waste. Through this effort, we will work to solve various environmental and social issues and contribute to the community.
